Pedaling into 2026: My Cycling Plans for the New Season
From mountain passes to lakeside rides — what's next after a packed 2025 on two wheels
2025 was full of great cycling adventures, most of them stretching over several days. I’m truly grateful for all those rides — from my unforgettable TransAlp that took me down to Lake Garda, to my trip to Reschensee where cycling turned into a full outdoor mix of running the Reschenseelauf, hiking, and even kiteboarding. Shorter highlights like Sella Ronda Bike Day and Dolomiti Bike Day in the Dolomites were just as special.
Right now, my cycling is all indoors on Zwift, but the 2026 season planning has already started. Some things will change, and some I just have to do again.
What’s changing: I’ll probably skip Sella Ronda and Dolomiti Bike Day this time. They’re fantastic events, but after three years, I feel like I’ve seen them enough for now.
What stays: The Reschensee trip. I’ll cycle to Lake Rescia again, take part in the 15k Reschenseelauf, and maybe add another kiteboarding session the following day. After that, I’ll ride down to Bozen and take the train home, hopefully managing to reserve a bike spot early enough.
New for 2026: A spring trip along the Bodensee–Königssee–Radweg. That’s roughly 478 km with 4,500 m of climbing over five days — a great way to start the season.
Our yearly TransAlp will still happen, though this time the route runs from Salzburg through the Alps back to Munich. Maybe it’s not a full crossing this year, but it’s a trip I always look forward to.
And to wrap up the season, I’m planning to conquer the Stilfser Joch. At 2,757 m, it’s one of the highest, most beautiful mountain passes in the Alps. The plan is to climb it during the annual car-free cycling day, descend into Switzerland, then return to Italy for the overnight stay. Whether we start right from Germany through Garmisch and Fernpass or drive part of the way is still open.
All in all, it’s an exciting plan. Though, as always, nothing’s guaranteed. Fingers crossed that everything falls into place!
